~Revelry and Madness

We've been pretty busy here in the Prichard household. Here is a glimpse into our holiday revelry and madness...

It all began with her advent calendar. I made these for ella last year. I was hoping to fill them with tiny toys and treats, but dang, it's hard to find fun and safe toys to fill 25 mini stocking with. So of course, grandma came to the rescue and got ella this - but when I opened it up and took all the toys out, I realized that I had done so without looking at what bits go with what bits. So now ella is is getting parts of trees and plants and animals that may not necessarily go together. Oops! But I don't think she mind - not really.

Every year we go to the port's gingerbread house contest. This was this year's winner in the "professional" category. Ella was completely memorized by this entry - mainly because it's the house from "UP," which happens to be her favorite movie.

I've always wanted wooden snowflakes for the tree. I found these at a local nursery - the same place we get our summer veggie starts.

Our first snow fall. It only really lasted a day. But enough snow came down to allow for several snowball fights. Let's just say, Tony got the worst of it. He was sadly outnumbered and out witted.

Finally our beautiful Christmas tree. Every year we decorate it differently. This year was no exception - the theme - sparking sugared dinosaurs with ginger people.

Ella decorated these cookies with her sitter emma. Don't they look fabulously perfect for our tree!

Ella is so crazy about her sugar coated T-Rex. I so love that about her.

Cycloptic ginger people. What every tree needs.

After seeing Christmas Eve on Sesame Street - we had to have tinsel for our tree. We searched all over town and finally found some at Target. Ella was so excited about it, that she designated the job of tinsel thrower solely to herself. But after a while, she decreed that Tony should do the top of the tree, I should do the middle, and el would decorate the bottom - all by herself. What a team leader!

Of course, the perfunctory Christmas tinsel beard. Ho Ho Ho.

~We Did It!

We finished writing the novel as of November 30th. Together, we wrote over 60 thousand words, ate countless bags of chips, chocolates and Pixy Stixs. Now there is talk of making a movie...

~Just Picked it Up!

And it's totally fabulous! I'm so digging the fact that you can make tons of cute things out of just a yard of fabric. We all know how expensive really really nice fabric can be...and often times it just sits in our stash cuz we're not sure what to do with it. So, I mean seriously, this book is definitely a very good thing!

Plus...
So CUTE! And the patterns are for 3 to 10 year-olds. How perfect is that! There's a really cozy chunky roll-neck sweater in an olive green, that I'm just dying to make. Not to mention adorable V-neck and stripy sweaters. Honestly, kids are sooo cute in stripes!

Also...I'm making Christmas stockings like crazy for the o'Etsy shop. I'm hoping to have a few new ones up by Friday morning. Check it out when you get the chance.

~My Etsy Shop!!!

Well, I finally did it. With the encouragement of friends and family, I opened my Etsy shop. To be honest, I'm really excited and terrified at the same time. I've never really thought about reaching out to a world wide audience of people to say, "Hey you! I made some really cool things and I think you should buy them!" The whole things feels strange and new...and yet, somehow very empowering.

I opened the shop on the 19th - on my dad's birthday. It's kind of an homage of sorts. I think my dad (before Nike) coined the phrase, "Just Do It!" But it was more like, "Shirley, stop talking about it...your driving me nuts...JUST DO IT!" So I did.

Hope you take a peek and don't forget to let me know what you think...feedback is always good when it comes to stuff like this! The link for the shop is located on the top of the side bar. Happy Shopping!

~Novel Writing

We (there are about 10 of us...on a good day) are writing a novel for this. It began on November 1st and will end on the 30th. Our goal: write a 50, 000 word, kick ass collaborative novel that encompasses a flesh changing plague, the crash of the Internet, the rise of evil Jesuits, a time traveling psychic cabbie, an coolant guzzling AI, a bag-lady, a scavenger hunt, and an Amish couple with a zeppelin. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the clown and the clown-loving Luddites. I know, it sounds crazy...but it all makes sense. At least to us.

And yes, I think there will be some sort of happy ending. That is unless Kilroy decides to blow up the world.

~CSA

In our efforts to support local organic farming, Tony and I have subscribed to a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). So that means, every Saturday, at the Farmer's Market, we get a tub of organic veggies from Rabbit Fields Farm.

Roslyn, the owner, is an amazing and knowledgeable young woman - who always welcomes everyone by name! I love that she gives back to the community by delivering food to places like the Food Bank and Sean Humphrey House.

And in case your wondering...this is what we found when we opened our bin last week!

Isn't it gorgeous! To be honest, we were really surprised by the amount of food that was in our bin. Fresh leeks, greens, sprouts, peppers, potatoes, cabbages, beets, and a beautiful orange squash. Yummy!!!

Can't wait till next Saturday!

~M-i-c-k-e-y M-o-u-s-e

Here is ella's Halloween costume. I made the shorts and had rummaged through her things to find a black, long sleeve shirt and a pair of tights. The hat, a gift from Claire and Beckett, made the whole ensamble perfect!

It's been her favorite bit of clothing to play in - and her favorite game? Tie Mickey to her tail (which is elastic) and then...well, swing time.

Who knew elastic could be so much fun!
